Long Distance Movers

Some of the moving companies are considering a long distance move – as the one where the state borders are being crossed, but according to the California Public Utility Commission, it is not really so. Long Distance Move can be done within the state of California as well, for example if one is relocating from the city of Los-Angeles to San Jose, it is more than 400 miles and definitely is not a local move for sure.

LONG DISTANCE SERVICES INCLUDE:

  1. Flat Rate, including estimating the volume of the job, travel distance, and other services and requirements which might arise as follows: transit storage (if required), packing for the smaller items when requested (kitchen, books, artwork, personal items and etc.); parking situation, the internal layout of each property (pick-up and drop-off); specific protection for delicate or unusual items (crating), travel expenses.
  2. Packing / Unpacking: for packing – loading assistance (rental PODS/Cubes/trucks and trailers) total mostly dependent on the size of the crew, the time required to perform the project, and packing supplies used for that specific move.
  3. Loading / Unloading
  4. Additional COI requirements if needed
  5. Packing Materials, that are all included in the flat rate, by analyzing the size of the move and the furniture types, we always take the needed quantity of packing materials and extra
  6. Dedicated Delivery, we are also able to assist with packing – loading if customers prefer to rent a POD / Cube / UBF – UPack trailer/truck. Dedicated delivery means having your own, exclusive truck & crew, which avoids multiple reloading stages (which is usual for “combined deliveries” when multiple subcontractors are involved, with extra reloading stages which increases the chance of dents, scratches, damages, missing items, delays, etc…). With dedicated delivery, you bypass all these reloading stages because the same, dedicated crew performs all the packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking required for that one, single customer.

Divide and Rule

For most moving projects within California and surrounding states, we can accommodate your move within two days:

  • Day 1 – packing furniture and larger items, full or partial packing for the smaller items when full packing assistance requested (kitchen, books, personal items, artwork, and other miscellaneous items); loading the truck with extra movers to speed up the process and to handle heavier items.
  • Day 2 – delivery at the destination between 9 am-12 pm. For larger moves, when full packing service is requested for all smaller items, we do recommend the day after delivery.

Why “Dedicated Delivery” and not “Combined Moves” ?

By contrast, most long distance movers that provide combined deliveries involve multiple reloading stages, for example:

  1. Regular truck loading for the pick-up address;
  2. Same-day unload into a warehouse vault;
  3. Unloading from the warehouse into a larger 18-wheeler truck (53 feet long cargo box), where the truck is often filled from the bottom up to the ceiling of the cargo space, thereby increasing the pressure on the bottom items, sometimes leading to damaged boxes, broken fragile items, etc.
  4. Unloading the 18-wheeler truck into a warehouse at the destination city – with extra reloading stage when some items could be lost (as the truck usually stops at every major city, these stages involve more chances for the items to be missing if they have been mixed up during extra reloading stages and/or driving);
  5. Loading a regular-sized truck at the warehouse in a major city to perform the delivery to a final destination;
  6. Final stage to drop-off at the destination. During most of these reloading stages, a different crew is in charge which makes it more complicated to treat delicate items appropriately (most items are covered up with blanket protection, and it makes it more difficult to recognize those items).

With a dedicated delivery, however, the same crew performs the pick-up and delivery stages which simplifies the logistics and issues mentioned above; also because of the dedicated truck, it requires just 2 stages: loading and unloading. Renting a POD/trailer/truck is very similar in most aspects with dedicated delivery (due to transparency and exclusivity guaranteed by POD/trailer providers (only very few in the country). The major difference is that unloading performed by a different company at the destination (to better instruct movers at the destination is to perform or request video/photo instructions from the loading crew, so everyone at the unloading stage is aware where the most fragile and delicate items have been placed within rental POD/trailer/truck).

How to be more secured?

By default, all licensed long distance moving companies in California offer the same basic coverage – 60 cents per pound per damage per item. In most cases, it is not the best coverage when some expensive and valuable items are involved. However, moving companies are not insurance providers, and cannot provide insurance directly; therefore, we recommend personalized moving insurance from a third party insurance provider for each and every move in the same way you might consider travel insurance, earthquake insurance, or auto insurance, for example. (It may already be included in your homeowners or renters insurance policy – please check with your provider). Although we take every care to protect your items, please be aware that moving is inherently risky, in that items will inevitably vibrate in the truck and minor breakages can occasionally occur. Even with diligent and careful handling, some items simply fail to withstand the normal stresses of moving.

In terms of protecting your larger items, we bring unlimited shrink wrap, packing tape, moving blankets, TV boxes, and wardrobe boxes (for the duration of the move) – all free of charge. Those reusables are included free-of-charge unless you would like to purchase them (for example, for storage or long-distance moves out of state). If moving out of storage with us, we repurchase the reusables back again at the same price. All upholstered furniture will be covered with plastic wrap free of charge, to keep those items clean during transportation and/or storage (mattresses, couches, etc.).
